Top Chef AWT Set To Entertain Birmingham Press Club

15 January 2008
Top TV chef Antony Worrall Thompson is ready to serve up an evening’s entertainment when he visits Birmingham at the end of January.
‘Wozza’ or ‘AWT’, as he is known, will be appearing at a celebrity dinner hosted by Birmingham Press Club, the oldest in the world.
The event will take place on 31 January at Opus restaurant, Cornwall Street, and will include a question and answer session featuring AWT and ITV Central Tonight presenter Jo Malin.
AWT has many links with Birmingham – not only does he hail from the Midlands (he was born in Stratford-upon-Avon) but he is an enthusiastic supporter of the city’s annual ‘Taste of Brum’ food festival.
He is best known for his TV appearances, including ‘Saturday Kitchen’ and ‘Ready Steady Cook’, and more recently he has filmed ‘Worrall Thompson Cooks’, a 78 part series for the Carlton Food Network, and also the ‘Saturday Cooks!’ series on ITV1.
As well as being a celebrity chef, AWT runs several of his own restaurants, the latest being the Barnes Grill, in Barnes, which opened in the summer of 2006. He also owns two pubs, both near Henley on Thames.
He somehow also finds time to write cookery books, and a weekly column for a national newspaper.
Press Club chairman John Lamb said: “Antony is probably one of Britain’s best known chefs, and we are grateful that he has taken time out of his undoubtedly busy schedule to fit in a celebrity dinner for us.
“I’m sure he will cook up an entertaining and tasty evening for us, and I would advise people interested in attending to book fast as possible. If you’ll excuse the pun, tickets are selling like hot cakes!”
