A new finance director has taken over at Birmingham Press Club.

Neil Wilson, a director of Snitterfield-based chartered accountant Guest Wilson, is set to introduce various innovations at the club, including an Internet-based payments and accounts system.

He succeeds Colin Meager, who stands down after ten years in the role.

Neil is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, and has been with Guest Wilson since 1995. Before that, he spent 12 years with what is now PriceWaterhouseCoopers, working in London, Dubai, Muscat and Birmingham.

He was latterly a senior group manager with the firm, in charge of a 40-strong business unit that was responsible for assurance and business review.

A graduate from Oxford University, Neil is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He said that he was looking forward to the challenge posed by the oldest press club on the world.

“I’ve joined the Press Club because it is not only a very old and revered institution, but also because I believe it is one of the most valuable networking organisations in the Midlands,” he said.

“It provides an unrivalled opportunity for the worlds of the media and business to come together for mutual benefit. I’m very much looking forward to being at the heart of the Club.”

John Lamb, Press Club chairman, said: “We’re obviously pleased to get someone of Neil’s calibre to join us as finance director. I am looking forward to seeing the results of some of the innovations he is proposing to introduce, which should benefit our membership immensely.

“The online payments system in particular is something we have been desperate to introduce for some time, and will mean that for the first time those wishing to book for our events will be able to do so entirely via our website.”
