Media Award 2012 Launch at Simpsons Restaurant

Media Awards 2012 Launch’.

30 January 2012

Many of the region’s leading media figures gathered at Simpsons restaurant in Edgbaston, Birmingham, for a rare photograph to promote Birmingham Press Club’s Midland Media Awards at Edgbaston Cricket Ground on March 15.

Among the guests at the lunch, sponsored by Barclays Corporate, was Daily Mail columnist Andrew Pierce, one of the judges. He was joined by this year’s chairman of judges, Steve Dyson, former editor of Birmingham Mail and now a media consultant. Representatives of Birmingham Airport, the headline sponsors of the awards, also attended. The Press Club’s main sponsors Bournville College are also among the award sponsors along with Barclays, who are supporting the Business Journalist of the Year award.

Press Club chairman John Lamb said: “This year’s awards promise to be a great scrap.  The Express and Star, the UK’s best-selling evening newspaper, are entering this year to compete against most of the region’s leading newspapers, including the Birmingham Post and Mail, the Coventry Telegraph, Leicester Mercury, Derby Telegraph, Gloucester Citizen, Stoke Sentinel plus the many excellent weeklies. We are also expecting strong entries from TV and radio as well as from new media.

“We have assembled an outstanding panel of judges who will be meeting soon to create the shortlist. We are delighted with the support from Birmingham Airport, Bournville College, our headline sponsors, and Barclays.”

Some categories are still open for sponsorship and any business interested should contact awards organiser Denise Mickle on 07973710504 or d.mickle@btinternet.co.uk or Press Club of sponsorship Lisa Kennedy on 07775548426 or lisa.kennedy@barclays.com
