Looking for guaranteed sunshine after this year’s wash-out summer?

Then the answer might be to go along to Birmingham Press Club’s Annual Ball on Friday, September 26, where a fabulous seven-day winter sun holiday in the Gambia is the star prize, courtesy of East Midlands Airport.

Press Club Chairman John Lamb said: “The Ball is a real fun occasion and always popular with our membership and guests. But this year our airport friends and airline supporters have been magnificent in coming up, as prizes, with return tickets to various destinations in Europe, Malta and Turkey, sampling the business class delights of Turkish Airlines’ new service from Birmingham to Istanbul

“And if you still prefer a UK break, then the tourism team at Heart of England West Midlands will provide a weekend away, including accommodation and entry to visitor attractions and theatres,” said Mr. Lamb.

Proceeds from the raffle are to be divided equally between the East Midland Airport-based Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance and a trust fund established on behalf of West Midlands teenager Ryan Cockbill, who became disabled after breaking his neck in a swimming pool accident in 2006. Courageously, however, he has set his sights on representing GB in Wheel Chair Rugby and is currently training for the 2012 Olympics.

The main sponsor of the Press Ball - being held at the MacDonald Burlington Hotel in New Street, Birmingham - is East Midlands Airport, which, in association with The Gambia Experience, is providing the holiday for two at the Kombo Beach Hotel in the resort of Kotu. The prize includes return flights from East Midlands Airport with complimentary airport car parking, in-flight meals and hotel transfers.

The Ball is also being backed by Aston Science Park, one of the Press Club’s long-standing supporters.

Live music is being provided by Little Palm, a new Birmingham group formed by teenage singer, songwriter-pianist Anna Palmer, while Heart FM is to provide the disco.
