Depressed over the Chancellor’s Spending Review? Then don’t be! Instead, think about having a good night out at the media’s most popular social bash of the year – Birmingham Press Club’s Annual Midlands Press Ball. And just imagine winning some of the fabulous raffle prizes that are up for grabs – all guaranteed to bring some sunshine into your life.

The Ball, hosted by Birmingham Press Club, takes place at the Macdonald Burlington Hotel in Birmingham city centre, on Friday, October 29.

Leading leisure travel group Thomas Cook is generously providing a holiday voucher up to the value of £800 as top prize, while Sir Peter Rigby’s Eden Hotel Collection has kindly donated a two-day break at the luxurious boutique Arden Hotel in Stratford upon Avon. A multi-million pound modernisation and refurbishment project was completed at the Arden earlier this summer to coincide with the re-opening of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, which is located opposite the hotel.

And with the Ball this year being co-sponsored by East Midlands Airport and Birmingham Airport airlines based at the two locations have been quick to give their own support by providing flights to a variety of destinations. Prizes include flights with BMIBaby, Eastern Airways, Jet2.com, Monarch and Turkish Airlines.

For those who prefer taking their pleasure nearer to home, how about a family ticket to one of the country’s most popular leisure destinations, Drayton Manor Theme Park, which this year is celebrating its 60th anniversary. Or two VIP tickets to Birmingham Royal Ballet’s premiere of “Cinderella” on November 24 with drinks and hospitality – and pre-show dinner, donated by Clive Reeves PR in the Birmingham Hippodrome Circle Restaurant. And what about a family ticket to see Birmingham Hippodrome’s pantomime, “Dick Whittington,” with the fabulous Joan Collins and an all-star cast – or two tickets to see Claire Sweeney in “Tell Me On A Monday” at the , Birmingham.

Grosvenor Casino Fiveways has teed-up a four-ball at The Belfry, one of Britain’s great golf courses – and for lovers of Indian cuisine, Anita Sharma-James’ Indian cookery school at Bromsgrove-based The Spice Trade has donated a two-course Indian cookery lesson.

Press Club chairman John Lamb said: “There are some wonderful prizes to be won and we are indebted to our loyal supporters for providing them. All we ask is that guests dig deep into their pockets on the night as the raffle proceeds will be divided equally between Acorn’s Children’s Hospice and the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance, the charities which this year are being supported by our two main sponsors. Another incentive to give generously is that Barclays, who are also supporting the event, will match whatever is raised.”
