Birmingham Airport and East Midlands Airport have joined forces to co-sponsor this year’s Midlands Press Ball, with further support for the ever-popular event coming from Barclays Corporate.

The ball, which will take place at the Macdonald Burlington Hotel, in Birmingham city centre, on Friday, October 29, is one of the highlights of the social calendar of Birmingham Press Club – the oldest organisation of its kind in the world. Formerly promoted as the Birmingham Press Ball, the function was re-branded last year to reflect increasing interest from the East Midlands in Press Club activities, such as its Annual Media Awards.

“Our Media Awards now regularly attract entries from throughout the East and West Midlands. So we are delighted that our other major event of the year – the Press Ball – is maintaining its appeal amongst corporate supporters from both regions,” said Press Club Vice-Chairman Fred Bromwich, who is event co-organiser together with fellow-Press Club director Melissa Dickinson.

He added: “The Press Club enjoys a long-standing relationship with East Midlands Airport and Birmingham Airport, both of whose continued success is crucial to the regional economy, and we are very pleased that such a liaison continues to flourish. We are also extremely happy that further support for the Ball is forthcoming from Barclays Corporate, another of the Club’s dedicated allies.”

Amy Teige, Press Office Manager at East Midlands Airport said: “Having a strong a relationship with the media is very important to us and that’s why, for the fourth year running, we are continuing to support this great event.”

Justine Hunt, PR Manager at Birmingham Airport, which is the main sponsor of the Press Club’s Annual Media Awards, commented: “Regional airports have an important role to play in easing the pressure in the over-congested South-East, so we’re delighted to be joining forces with East Midlands Airport to show a united position at this year’s leading media event.

Ray O’Donoghue, managing director of Barclays’ Midlands Region, said: “We are delighted to be associated with Birmingham Press Club’s Annual Ball for the second year running.”

Proceeds from the Ball raffle are to be divided between the airports’ main charities – Acorns and the East Midlands Airport-based Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance.

In addition, they will receive a further boost to their funds. For Mr O’Donoghue revealed: “It will be Barclays’ pleasure to match the monies raised on the evening for the two charities.”
